A high-energy blend of blues, swing, country fiddling and Mexican rhythms, Western Swing lit up dancehalls across the American South and West in the 1930s and ’40s, and later became a key influence on early rock ’n’ roll. Led by pioneering bands like Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, the genre dazzled with its inventiveness, improvisation and irresistible dance beat.
For this year’s Water Sound Festival, a one-off band of swing-curious Orkney musicians comes together to revive the spirit of the genre with a set of classic tunes. Expect infectious rhythms, wild solos, and a big, irresistible grin of a performance.
As Bob Wills would say: “Ahhhh-haaaaa! Take it away!”
